Remote Identity Validation Technology Demonstration (RIVTD)

The Remote Identity Validation Technology Demonstration (RIVTD) challenged industry to demonstrate secure and accurate remote identity validation technologies that can combat identity fraud when users apply for government services, open bank accounts, or verify social media accounts.

The RIVTD provided an opportunity for vendors to demonstrate their ability to validate identity documents using images, to verify the identity of the document owner by matching the document with a "selfie" image, and to assure the "liveness" of selfie images. All images were taken with smartphones and similar devices.

Systems Demonstrated:
- 9 Document Validation Systems
- 16 "Selfie" Match to Document Systems
- 6 Active Presentation Attack Detection Systems
- 15 Passive Presentation Attack Detection Systems

2022

Biometric Technology Rally

The 2022 Biometric Technology Rally challenged industry to develop faster, more accurate, and easier-to-use biometric recognition capabilities to improve security and ease of use at security checkpoints. The 2022 Rally evaluated face biometric acquisition systems and face biometric matching algorithms that are designed to reliably identify small groups of people opting-in to the biometric process, and to not process bystanders who have not opted-in. Biometric systems were tested against pre-determined performance benchmarks. Data collected from acquisition systems during scenario testing was used to assess the performance and interoperability of face matching algorithms.

Systems Tested:
- 4 Group Face Acquisition Systems
- 10 Face Recognition Algorithms

2021

Biometric Technology Rally

The 2021 Biometric Technology Rally demonstrated the ability of biometric systems to reliably acquire and match images of different individuals, including those wearing face masks. Both acquisition systems and matching algorithms were evaluated as part of the Rally. Data collected from acquisition systems during scenario testing was used to assess the performance and interoperability with matching algorithms.

Systems Tested:
- 5 Face Acquisition Systems
- 10 Face Recognition Algorithms

2020

Privacy Technology Demonstration

The 2020 Privacy Technology Demonstration was a first-of-its-kind event to examine the performance of technologies intended to protect the privacy of individuals by obfuscating or encrypting faces in videos. DHS S&T sought full or partial systems capable of collecting and processing live and/or stored video footage, such that the faces of any recorded individuals are obfuscated and cannot be identified by humans or by face recognition algorithms. Companies provided either camera systems with edge processing or software capable of processing streaming video.

Systems Demonstrated:
- 5 Privacy Technologies

2020

Biometric Technology Rally

The 2020 Biometric Technology Rally demonstrated the ability of biometric systems to reliably acquire and match images of different individuals, including those wearing face masks. Both acquisition systems and matching algorithms were evaluated as part of the Rally. Data collected from acquisition systems during scenario testing was used to assess the performance and interoperability with matching algorithms.

Systems Tested:
- 6 Face Acquisition Systems
- 1 Iris Acquisition System
- 10 Face Matching Systems
- 3 Iris Matching Systems

2019

Biometric Technology Rally

Rally 2019 BannerThe 2019 Biometric Technology Rally challenged industry to develop high-throughput biometric systems, meeting the requirements of fast and accurate user recognition within identity verification operations, such as security checkpoints. The 2019 Rally invited providers of biometric (face, iris, or fingerprint) acquisition systems, as well as providers of biometric matching systems that achieve defined performance targets for high-throughput use cases.

Systems Tested:
- 8 Face Acquisition Systems
- 2 Fingerprint Acquisition Systems
- 2 Face/Iris Acquisition System
- 1 Iris Acquisition Systems
- 1 Face/Fingerprint Acquisition System
- 8 Face Matching Systems
- 3 Fingerprint Matching Systems
- 2 Iris Matching Systems

2018

Biometric Technology Rally

The 2018 Biometric Technology Rally called upon industry to provide face or face/iris systems to meet the challenge of traveler identification in a high-throughput security environment using an unmanned system. Systems were evaluated using large-scale testing with volunteers.

Systems Tested:
- 6 Face Acquisition & Matching Systems
- 5 Face/Iris Acquisition & Matching Systems
